- community services such as our Early Years program, Men’s Sheds, health promotion and community outreach services.
Orbost Regional Health consulted with the community to develop the current Strategic Plan and Service Plan which provides the focus for the future development of our services and ensures a sustainable health service that best meets the needs for our local community.
The Orbost Medical Clinic attached to Orbost Regional Health is a modern facilities staffed with highly trained professional. Our GP’s, in addition to their family medicine training also have specialised skills in emergency care, surgery, obstetrics and anaesthetics. Practice nurses are on-site daily to assist our GPs with client care and coordination of care. A number of visiting specialist also provide services at our Clinic these include a visiting Psychiatrist, Paediatrician, Rheumatologist and a Renal Physician. We also have other services such as midwife clinics, mental health nurses and women’s health services operating from our medical clinic.
Orbost Medical Clinic GPs and the acute health services work closely with a range of home based and community based services to assist integrated care management. These services include Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and counselling. Lower level rehabilitation is available following hip and knee surgery, pulmonary and cardiac problems or surgery and is undertaken in our modern rehabilitation centre.
Families have access to supports to assist them to manage the growth and development of their children, with Maternal and Child Health services to monitor children’s development and discuss parenting needs and therapeutic services for children who require extra support to achieve important developmental milestones.
Community care is an important part of the service ethos at Orbost Regional Health. Older and socially isolated people are cared for in their homes by district nurses, and home care staff. These staff provide a bridge between families and medical services and can support family carers of older people to have a break and access to a number of supported day activity groups for their loved ones.
Orbost Regional Health offers a range of acute services. Our Acute Ward contains 15 general medical/surgical beds, emergency and outpatients department, inpatient maternity services, radiology services and a three chair Dialysis Unit. A modern fully equipped operating theatre is also available for GPs and visiting specialist surgeons.
Maternity Care is provided by a team of GP’s and midwives through the Community Midwifery program. This ensures continuity of care and full involvement of women and their families throughout their pregnancy, birth and post-natal care. All women are offered at least one domiciliary visit from a midwife that has cared for them once they go home. ORH screens women carefully to ensure they meet our admission criteria for safe birthing at Orbost and for those that are not able to birth at Orbost we have strong links with other services to provide the higher level of care they may need.
Orbost Regional Health manages aged care residential facilities. Waratah Lodge is a 15 bed high level nursing home that forms part of the Acute complex. Residents are cared for in a home-like environment by our qualified nurses and Personal Care Attendants. A full time Activities Officer is also on site to ensure residents remain interested and active. Waratah Lodge has the highest standards of care, with full accreditation to confirm the quality of care.
Lochiel House provides low level residential aged care competently staffed by Personal Care Attendants with care plans coordinated by a qualified nurse. Lochiel House residents enjoy a home like environment where care is centred around the person. An Activities Officer supports recreation and leisure pursuits and social connection to the community.
