Maternity Care

Orbost Regional Health provides care for women who are considered to be low risk and for whom we can provide safe care.
We have a Framework for Safe Birthing that has been developed by a range of people dedicated to safe birthing processes. The Framework articulates the type of obstetric conditions that we will manage at Orbost.
Our Models of Care consist of:
• Shared Care Model
Our Midwives share in your care with your GP. Orbost Regional Health operates a Midwives Clinic and it is through this clinic that you will form a close relationship with our Midwives.
• ORH Community Midwives Model
We have a committed group of Midwives and they have elected that in the event that they are caring for you and your baby needs to be delivered at a larger hospital, they want to follow your birthing process through to the birth of your baby when possible. To enable this, Orbost Regional Health has an agreement with Bairnsdale Regional Health Service that will allow for our Midwives to continue your support during the birthing process.
• A Hospital Based Maternity Care Model
This model will provide maternity care in hospital at Orbost Regional Health
• Midwives Clinic
The Midwives Clinic provides professional and sensitive support to mother both pre & post birth, including:
• Home visits in the early days following birth
• Clinic appointments available each Tuesday and Friday at ORH for antenatal checks and breast feeding support (bookings necessary)
• Antenatal sessions
• Day stay admissions for breastfeeding difficulties and unsettled babies can be arranged to allow for more intensive support and assistance. This clinic is located at Orbost Medical Clinic.
